Tutor: LEE MACHELAK: Portraiture: Direct Method (Oils)
Lee teaches the direct method of painting by focusing initially on the broad mass with a gradual building of a likeness as the various elements of the painting are refined. Students will be encouraged to learn to see in “a painterly way” as well as learning about composition, tonal relationships, flesh colors, temperature and edges to give the illusion of depth. Lee won the Alice Bale Scholarship in 1994, and went on to study at the Florence Academy of Art in Italy concentrating on the portrait and figure. Lee has won several prizes with portraits, and exhibits in Singapore, London, New York and Vancouver, and is a member of the Twenty Melbourne Painters Society. Suit intermediate to advanced.
