Now October 2010: Previous Workshop Code: W0910MCDa
Tutor: PAUL McDONALD SMITH (Melbourne Artist):
Masterclass: Tonal Impressionism and the Still Life (Oils)
A privileged opportunity to study under this Melbourne artist & experienced art judge, Paul has won over 100 awards, and in 2005 Paul was named in the Queens Birthday Honours, and invested with the Medal of the Order of Australia for “Service to the Visual Arts”. Tonal understanding is the foundation of every good painter, & the tradition of Tonal Impressionism is an approach that allows artists to paint “what they see” no matter what the subject. A really good painting has to be tonally correct, but not necessarily colour correct. Paul’s teaching of oil painting is based on time honoured principles of traditional methods & techniques, such as how to depict the effects of sunlight & space in the landscape in an impressionistic way. This classical Australian art tradition was handed down to Paul by his mentor and friend, renowned Australian Artist, Sir William Dargie, CBE. Suit Levels 2 & 3.
