Tutor: Maureen Hansen: Colour and the Masters: Modernist Painting Techniques - Finding your Mark
Award winning artist Maureen Hansen will guide students through a semester of the study of light, depth and colour. With references to the Masters of Colour the Fauvists, the Impressionist movement,early Modernists: Matisse, Cezzane, Soutine; Maureen will help you investigate your own journey to understanding how colour can improve your paintings dramatically.
Teaching you the basics of colour mixing : tonal variation through the spectrum. and learning from the very best colourists history has to offer. Included in Maureens classes is advice on contemporary Australian arts industry, how to assist emerging and established artists in developing their professional career and references to notable colourists techniques by artists such as Margaret Olley, Davida Allen, June Tupicoff and William Robinson.
In the Catalogue essay 'Lush Life' by Davida Allen in 2003 she describes Maureen's paint application as lush, "...the paint is applied with sheer romance. Each brushstroke drips with love for the subject. Paint is Maureen’s song! She paints with obsession, in the same way the nightingale in the fairy story sings."
In 2001, Maureen won the Courier Mail Art Prize in two sections - Still Life and Outdoor Lifestyle, and in 2008 won the Tattersall's Landscape prize.
