bio

Maureen Hansen is an artist who has exhibited widely in Australia and in London. She graduated from QUT with a Bachelor of Arts (Fine Arts).

Since then she has won several awards including the Churchie Art Prize (1995), the Brisbane Polo Club Award (1994) and the Melville Haysom Memorial Scholarship, Queensland Art Gallery (1993).

In 2001, she won the Courier Mail Art Prize in two sections - Still Life and Outdoor Lifestyle.

Her most recent exhibitions were at the Ray Hughes Gallery, Sydney (2000) and Screen West Publishing House, London (1999). Both were contributions to group exhibitions, entitled Thinking Aloud and Psyche Why Why? respectively.

She is a painter who has loved drawing the human figure for the past twelve years. For seven of those years she has taught others how to draw from life, and marvels at how every individual has a unique reaction when drawing the nude.

It has illuminated her ideas to the inherent attitudes we have to our bodies. For her, drawing celebrates our perception of living within the human body.
