Cernak

Cernak is from a non-Indigenous first generation migrant background, born in the Glass House Bay region (Moreton Bay) who has already lived and worked through three major art periods in Modernism, Post-Modernism and the eclecticism we refer to as “Contemporary”.

Cernak studies painting and drawing in the early days at Brisbane Central Technical College before beginning three decades of study and solo exhibiting. She studied art at the Technical University and Art Academy of Vienna in the ‘70s, as well as exhibiting and completing a Degree in Fine Arts at the University of Queensland.

She holds a post-graduate Diploma in Painting from the Qld. College of Art and has taught since 1986 back in Brisbane at the Qld. Art Gallery, the Brisbane Institute of Art, Art Site in the Valley, Communify in Paddington and at the Winter Programme of the Macgregor Art Schools in Toowoomba.

Her art explores the metaphor of the landscape/country as body/Earth, a unique expression that opens inwards and outwards into the realms of the imagination.
