Scott Breton

Scott Breton was born in 1982.  Scott began drawing and painting at an early age, winning his school’s art subject prize and receiving a Highly Commended at the Ministers Art Awards.

He was given the book “Figure Drawing, For All Its Worth” by Illustrator Andrew Loomis when he was just eight years old.  Scott says he began his study (in rudimentary form) then on the elements of form drawing such as perspective, human anatomy, general proportions, and construction of the body from simple forms.

While he managed to complete his Bachelor of Science Degree, majoring in Genetics at the University of Queensland, Scott soon realized resistance to an artistic career was futile.

Since 2002 Scott has attended weekly life drawing sessions almost continuously.

He ran the Glasshouse Life Drawing Group in 2006 and in the first term of 2007, and has studied with David Paulsen and at the Julian Ashton Art School in Sydney.  He has been particularly influenced by the instructional books of George Bridgeman, another constructional draftsman.  Other influences have come from the draftsmanship of artists such as Michelangelo, Rubens, Leonardo, Alfred Munnings, Ivor Hele, Lloyd Rees, George Lambert and various illustrators such as Norman Rockwell.

Currently, Scott is working on pieces to put into the AME Bale Travelling Art Scholarship competition, and following that, he will be continuing to paint towards another exhibition in 2009.  Scott says his current career goals are to study in Europe or the United States in the next few years at an art school with strong realist training.
