ANNA NIBLIC HEGGIE: Fundamentals of Drawing and Painting – A Dynamic Approach
An intensive course that increases technical knowledge and develops thought processes. A systematic investigation of the subject matter is made using art references, drawing on the traditional teaching methodologies of the fine arts, incorporating a strong grounding in both drawing and painting using a dynamic approach. Visual awareness is increased with the freedom to express more creatively, working from a solid foundation of tonal analysis and colour mixing with technical demonstrations in glazing, scumbling and other paint applications. Anna has won the first prize of the Southern Cross Arts Festival, Ballina several times, exhibits internationally, working from her studio in Lennox Head.

ALAN MORRISON and KRISSTIE BYRNNE: Fundamentals of Drawing and Painting – Level 1
This 16 week course is focused on the traditional foundation of fine art; technique, which is the keystone of the traditional method of painting. Drawing is fundamental to all aspects of Art and Design practice, & is the primary tool for analysis, understanding, and the communication of visual ideas. The Fundamentals of Drawing and Painting is an introduction to good practice in representational drawing and painting, with special emphasis on the use of light, tonal values and the subtleties of colour mixing. This course of study is recommended for beginners, or for those students wishing to build a solid foundation of skill in the use of traditional techniques. Alan recently emigrated from Scotland where he studied fine arts, winning the coveted Newbury Medal, & his portrait painting has been shown in the National Portrait Gallery, London

MAUREEN HANSEN: Colour and Still Life
Dates: 1; 8; 15; 29 August and 5; 12 September 2008.
Immerse yourself in the art of seeing colour.. and using it to enhance your painting. Popular Australian contemporary colourists such as Margaret Olley, William Robinson and Davida Allen will inform Maureens lectures, and she can effectively demonstrate new ways to draw out the form of the objects and create light and dark through using the spectrum of colour. Matisse, Bonnard, Cezanne and the German Expressionists such as Kirshner or Nolde have informed generations of artists who seek to enrich their experience of colour: Maureen can unlock the secrets to why these artists are deemed the MODERN MASTERS and share their insights to successful composition and quality painting through the medium of Still Life. Maureen recently won the prestigious 2008 Tattersalls Art Prize.

CERNAK: A Metaphysical Modernist Approach
Working from a combination of figure and landscape, the central concept of identifying oneself with where you are in time and place, will help to connect your art practice to your life. Using various genres such as Still Life, Figure work, Metroscape and Fantasy will help expand your creative development and evolution as an artist, as you cover aspects such as contour in context of space, deconstruction, identifying colour and its emotional relationship, allegory, symbolism, myths and archetypes. Cernak is a Metaphysical Modernist with experience in East European as well as East Coast Australian art developments.

Title: Capturing the Atmosphere of the Landscape
Teacher(s): John Bell & Krisstie Byrnne
Synopsis: This workshop will focus on painting the landscape with particular emphasis on the sky at dusk, working from reference photos in either oils or acrylics. Demonstrations using oil paint and interactive acrylics, these classes are suitable for the beginner to intermediate student.

Title: Retaining Spontaneity

Synopsis: Alan recently emigrated from Scotland where he studied fine arts, winning the coveted Newbury Medal, & his portrait painting has been shown in the National Portrait Gallery, London. Working from a model, learn to retain that rawness & fresh feel of the original idea by exploring composition, the spontaneity of brushmarks, with an emphasis on the underpainting.

Synopsis: Cameron is a highly qualified and experienced artist, illustrator, author and publisher, founding the independent publisher Daydream Press. Throughout the classes he will share advice on the entire process of creating a book to having it published. Discover the exciting world of picture book illustration and learn how to create unique characters and backgrounds using watercolours as well as how to link the pictures together to form a narrative.
