Title: Masterclass: Tonal Impressionism in Oils : Landscapes and Flowers

Synopsis: A privileged opportunity to study under this Melbourne artist & experienced art judge, Paul has won over 100 awards, & in 2005 Paul was named in the Queens Birthday Honours and invested with the Medal of the Order of Australia for “Service to the Visual Arts”. Tonal understanding is the foundation of every good painter, & the tradition of Tonal Impressionism is an approach that allows artists to paint “what they see” no matter what the subject. Paul’s teaching of oil painting is based on time honoured principles of traditional methods & techniques, such as how to depict the effects of sunlight & space in the landscape. This classical Australian art tradition was handed down to Paul by his mentor and friend, renowned Australian Artist, Sir William Dargie, CBE.

Title: Masterclass: Secrets to Good Portraiture
Teacher: Clayton J Beck III
Synopsis: A rare & unique opportunity to study under Clayton J. Beck III, a renowned portraiture artist direct from the USA, who graduated from the American Academy of Art in Chicago & studied at the Palette & Chisel Academy of Fine Arts with Richard Schmid. Many secrets are locked up in values, as well as lost & found edges. This workshop will help you to rank the edges of the values’ shapes, while edges are the key to seeing the relationships of the values. Various techniques of alla prima painting in oils will be used to create an artistic statement, as the head study is the basis of all formal painting instruction. Students will paint two studies each day, with each study having a different purpose & goal, fostering the ability to continue self-study in a sound and purposeful way. For oil painters.
